Highly
Efficient Electricity Generation
ITN Energy Systems is developing
a planar Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) for
portable, residential and commercial electric
power markets. Our unique fuel cell stack
design will result in a compact, efficient,
environmentally friendly system with long
life and very cost effective power generation.
SOFCs generate DC electricity by combining
fuel and air in an electrochemical process
with excellent fuel conversion efficiency
and elimination of the pollution associated
with conventional fuel combustion processes.
In the past, commercialization of SOFC systems
has suffered from high cost and limited life,
effects primarily driven by the high operating
temperature (~1000°C) of these systems.
ITN is developing reduced temperature SOFC
systems with long life (> 40,000 hours)
and affordable cost.

Key Features of ITN's SOFC design
are:
- Thin Film Electrolyte
- Reduced operating temperatures
(500-800°C)
- Direct Conversion Anode
- No external reformer
- Fuel flexibility
- Gas Manifold with Monolithic
Fabrication & Advanced
Sealing
- Advanced Thermal Management
System
- High Power Density: 1-2 W/cm2
at 800°C
ITN has assembled a team of scientists/engineers
with a combination of over 30 years experience
in SOFC and related ceramic and electrochemical
technologies. In addition, ITN is teamed
with several strategic partners including
the Idaho National Environmental And Engineering
Laboratory (INEEL), the Colorado School
of Mines (CSM), and the University of Colorado,
to ensure successful development and demonstration
of state-of-the-art SOFC technology.
